Before you get started, make sure you have all the right tools. You're going to need a nail clipper, a nail file, cotton balls, aluminum foil, acetone, and cuticle oil.

Step 1: Clip off any excess nail extensions.

My dip powder nails are always a little longer than my natural nails—I usually get them with tips—so I always clip off the extra length to make the removal process go quicker. If this doesn't apply to you, go ahead and skip to the next step.

Step 2: File off the top layer.

Next, file or buff off the shiny top layer of your nail. (This allows the acetone you apply later to effectively remove the other layers of polish.) Once the top layer of your nail is covered in dust, you're good to go.

Step 3: Place an acetone-soaked cotton ball over your nail.

Soak a cotton ball in acetone—regular nail polish remover won't get the job done! You need to make sure you have 100 percent pure acetone, otherwise the powder won't dissolve off the nail. Then place the soaked cotton ball on your nail and wrap it in aluminum foil for 15ish minutes.

Step 4: Take off the aluminum foil.

Once your nails are done soaking, whip off your foils and wipe off any excess powder with the cotton ball. If you still have a ton of powder left on your nail, let your nails soak for an additional 10 minutes.

Step 5: Moisturize your nails.

All that acetone will really dry out your nails, so once the powder is all gone, add a couple of drops of cuticle oil to your nail beds. Your fingers will thank you.
